Does my windscreen need to be repaired or replaced?
This depends on the type of window, and the size and position of the damage. Chips and cracks which are located more than 7cm from the edge of your windscreen can usually be safely repaired. Too close to the edge can weaken the windscreen as a whole, so it must be replaced.
How long does it take to repair or replace a windscreen?
Assuming repair is possible, it can be completed while you wait in about 30 – 40 minutes. If the entire windscreen must be replaced, it can take a few days to source the correct screen, await delivery, and install it.
How important is a car’s windscreen for safety?
In modern vehicles, the windscreen is an integral part of the structural integrity of the vehicle, and forms part of the safety system which protects the occupants in the event of a crash. Without a structurally sound windscreen, there’s much less keeping the frame from crumpling or collapsing if the car rolls over.
